Ed is a 5th generation Torrington resident first elected to the Board of Education in 2017 and serving as Chair since December 2023. From fire marshals to county sheriffs to UAW union leaders, members of the Corey family have long been involved in Torrington civic life. Ed is the only child of Michelle Corey and one of many grandchildren of the late Edward E Corey.
Under his leadership, the Board of Education has adopted a proven math and reading curriculum which has improved academic performance, opened the new High School/Middle School, and implemented a career pathways program at Torrington High School to give our students who aren’t going to college essential career skills. He’s leading the way on expanding services for English language learners, offering locally grown foods for school breakfast and lunch, and delivering millions in savings to taxpayers on special education and health insurance costs.
Ed is running for State Representative because Torrington deserves better leadership in Hartford. Torrington is facing a major crisis of affordability and Ed won’t stand by and watch it happen. As the only child of a single parent, Ed knows firsthand what it’s like to rely on social services and charity to get by. It’s time to fight to make sure no Torrington family needs to rely on those services again, and to build a City and State where every family has the opportunity to succeed.
